Mining

Mining ships are required mine ores from asteroids.

At the moment, there are several asteroids in each star system, 1 (but huge) in each expanse - the scarcity makes asteroid locations very valuable intel.

You can only see an asteroid if you are in the same sector as the rock, so the only way to find one is to jump around, checking your sector view after each jump. When you find one and jump to the same grid, you can scan it to see what ores it contains (it will always be iridium + something else) and/or mine it.

Refineries are now in-game, although only a few and all admin-owned. There is an iridium refinery and 2-3 more refineries (each processing a different ore) in each system. They are always in a planet sector, grid 253 (southeast of the planet). To use a refinery, go to its grid and click on the name of the outpost.

Planets have now stopped buying ores completely, so the best use for your ores/alloys is to craft items needed in the shipbuilding industry in manufactories.
