[edit] Layout of the Universe
Chosen Space takes place in one galaxy, which is divided into 36 systems. Sixteen of the systems have planets (Star System), the rest do not (Expanse). Each system is divided into 400 sectors, and each sector is divided into 400 grids.
Thus:
400 Grids = 1 Sector
400 Sectors = 1 System
36 Systems = the entire Chosen Space Galaxy
[edit] Turns
Most actions (moving, mining, attacking, etc...) require turns. You begin the game with 1500 turns, which is the most you can have at any given time.
Turns regenerate at a rate of 1 turn per minute 'real' time. The need for turns forms the boundaries of the game, and prevents players who have an excess of free time from having an unfair advantage over others in becoming the most powerful and/or richest player.
The maximum number of turns per day will not increase, nor will the rate at which they regenerate.
[edit] Points
Points are a second currency (along with credits). Points are extremely valuable and are required to buy ships and outposts. You get 4 points an hour (96 a day), more points can be gained by voting for ChosenSpace on several rating sites (Voting button in the bottom bar) - thats about 100 more per day. Some of the voting sites require confirmation of the vote, so make sure your vote has been confirmed, dont just click the link and close it. Points are now also given for posting on the official Chosen Space forum (1 point per post).
Clicking the "Points" button will take you to the points market, where you can buy additional points with your credits. The number of points you can buy per day there is limited and can be increased by voting (not working well right now, Torin is working on it). You can also buy points in private deals, where the amount is not limited, but you risk getting scammed. The usual routine is you send credits first, but if you are dealing with someone whose reputation is not that good, you may try to convince them to send points first.
The way the majority of points get in game is by donating real-life money, which helps to cover the server costs and keep the game free of charge. If you wish to donate, the button is in the bottom right of the screen.
Also, Torin knows why, it is a common typo to mistake turns for points.
[edit] Transfers
To transfer your money to another player, the easiest way is to click their name and use either the "transfer credits" or "transfer points" button - credits can be transferred to a faction as well. However, points cannot.
Also, if you know their transfer reference, you can use the "Transfers" button in the top bar (there you can also find your own transfer reference and the transfer reference of your faction).
[edit] Factions
Factions are group of players that generally work for a single goal. Its best to join a faction, as it brings several benefits - you get help and advice from your fellow members, you can get loans or even donations from your faction to upgrade your ship (when that is in the game), etc.
To join a faction, some ranking officer must send you an invite and you have to accept it. If youre looking for a faction, just pop into the galactic comms and/or the chatroom and say it out loud. In the rush hours, you will be flooded with invites almost instantly. To see what faction a player is in, click his name, it will say for example:
- Player: Avater
- joined: Joined: ?
- Tribe: Nespian
- Homeworld: Wahur
- Faction:United System Alliance
If the last line isnt there, it means the player is not in any faction. If you click the name of the faction, you will see a list of its members, along with the faction description.
[edit] Aim of the Game
As there is no restart of the game (no specific end to it), there is no way to "win" it.
Each player must choose his/her own goal(s).
You can become a feared warlord, a respected diplomat, an infamous pirate, a rich trader, a skilled miner.
Ultimately, it is up to you...
