The youngster stared into the pitiless optical receptors that filled the sockets where the older man's eyes once were. "You can kill a man" Artemis started "You can end his life, destroy every image and verse ever produced about him, hunt down and slaughter all of his disciples, yet, as long as he remains in the hearts and eyes of the people as their hero, he will have beat you."
The vox crackled what 6000 or so years ago would have been the voice of the old rogue "You see, a man can do nothing all his life, and as long as people think he is powerful, or heroic, he will be truely great. In the same hand, a man could toil endessly in the dark, changing the universe on a grand scale, and yet if he is not recognised for his deeds, he shall remain powerless, worthless."
"So" the young man inquired "You're saying I should take credit for everything I do, and even things I do not?"
A laugh came across the vox, "I'm not saying you should do anything, you'll figure out what you should do on your own, I was simply killing time while the ship finished repairs on my escape pod."
The old rogue stood up and began walking away.
"Oh yes" He said turning back "If I can offer you any advise though, it's this: Take care of your ship, and even better care of your pod, and always have a good book in there, it's a long way from the expance to a friendly planet."
