Aetean Rubberwhale

The Aetean Rubberwhale is a colony of aquatic microorganisms living in the oceans of planet Aeten in the Raxian system. The average colony measures about 500 isametres in length and 50-100 isametres in diameter. It takes the form of a glob of blue-black colour.

This lifeform has polymeric metabolism. It filters the water and mud from the ocean-bed in search for dead organisms. Its metabolic cycle causes the submerged colony to surface every few days to get rid of waste material and then submerge again. The waste material is squirted in the air where it reacts with atmospheric nitrogen and certain trace elements, creating amorphous crystals of raw Polymers. These crystals become a source of nutrients for the vast array of microorganisms of the Aetean ocean. The crystals are collected by Aeteans and then processed into various industrial Polymers, exported from Aeten in vast quantities.
